CHESTER - The Board of Selectmen formally accepted the resignation of maintenance worker Paul Holmes last week. Holmes had worked for the town for about three years, but was recently suspended for 30 days.

Following the suspension, Holmes asked that his employment be discussed in a public meeting before the selectmen, and two weeks ago, as reported in the Tri-Town Times, he sat with the board and maintenance supervisor Steve Moltenbrey.

Moltenbrey read a letter into the record with issues presented to the board prior to the suspension. He cited poor attendance, misuse of the town's truck, and the decision of Holmes to rewrite his employee identification badge to include a racial slur. more

Hampstead Panelists Offer Differing Views on Lyme Disease
Rebecca Fishow
Tri-Town Times

HAMPSTEAD - A panel of Lyme disease educators and scholars offered their take on myths and facts about the controversial disease in a forum at the Hampstead Public Library June 25.

The panel featured Hampstead resident Jacqueline Arlen, whose daughter, Victoria, has chronic Lyme disease; nurse practitioner Peg Ditulio, who practices in Atkinson; and Greater Manchester Lyme disease support group leader Dave Hunter, whose children have suffered from chronic Lyme disease.

"There are very few Lyme-literate people in New Hampshire," Ditulio said. "It's a bit like the Underground Railroad in that you have to practice in the way that's kind of quiet because the larger powers that be are a threat." more

Bonasoro Resigns From Cable Committee Over Appointments
Matt Rittenhouse
Tri-Town Times

SANDOWN - A decision by the Board of Selectmen to appoint two members to the cable TV advisory board had selectman Paula Bonasoro resigning her chairmanship of the cable committee in protest.

The cable committee has been the topic of discussion for a number of recent selectmen meetings, but matters came to a head Monday night. Discussion has centered on the lack of new appointments to the board, with applicants questioning why they had not been contacted or approved. Bonasoro had cited numerous roadblocks to getting a quorum, and said the lack of appointments was not by design.

After the selectmen proposed appointing two persons to fill out the ranks of the committee, Bonasoro responded that the committee had been able to organize a quorum and employ a new recording secretary for the following Monday, and asked that the board wait on any decisions. more
